Baby Banana

The baby banana, like all the plants of this family, is a herbal plant ( it is said it is a giant herb). The stem is a rhizome subterranean which grows in the ground with short roots, which originate buds or children named “colinos” with which it reproduces, reason why it is considered a clone. In the rhizome the shells are born and are spirally shaped. These are elliptical, very big, with thorny veins. The shells are broad and resistant and go one on top of the other, until forming the trunk or pseudo stem. When the plant develops completely, the flower appears through the center of the pseudo stem. The flowers are unisexual, because in some the stamen atrophy and in others the pistil. They are present in groups of 2 strings called hands and covered with altered reddish leaves. The absence of flowers includes several of these hands of feminine flowers. Each hand can contain 10 to 20 baby bananas.

The baby banana is a small fruit between 8 and 13 cm long and about 3 in diameter.

The skin is soft and smooth, finer and thinner than that of regular banana. The unripe color is green and yellow once ripe, with little brown spots. The flesh has an ivory color with few fibers and a buttery texture. It has a more intense taste and perfume than regular banana. The Baby Banana, like all other bananas, is considered one of the healthiest fruits around, because it is rich in minerals and vitamins and an excellent very digestive restorative.
